Barcelona superstar makes stance on future clear: “I’m at the club I’ve always dreamed of”

Speaking during an interview with Dutch outlet NOS (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has claimed that he is at the club he always dreamed of.

The 26-year-old arrived at Barça in the summer of 2019, joining from AFC Ajax, amidst interest from a host of other top European clubs.

While it has not always been easy going for him in Catalonia, mostly because of the club going through a phase of transition, De Jong has slowly but surely grown into one of the most important cogs in the team.

There have been constant rumours about him being a target for Manchester United and other clubs as well, but with a contract running out until 2026, De Jong has made it clear that he is very happy at Barcelona.

“I’m at the club I’ve always dreamed of joining,” said the midfielder. “I am very satisfied at Barcelona. It’s always difficult to say. For now, I feel good here.”

Discussing his personal achievements and ambitions, De Jong insisted that he is yet to win the accolades that he wants.

“I still haven’t won the awards I want to win and I’m still not the player I want to be. There is still room for improvement and I still have time, but I would prefer to be there as soon as possible,” the Dutchman admitted.

On the areas he needs to improve, De Jong admitted that he needs to be more decisive on the pitch, saying:

“Being decisive is usually linked to goals and assists. It’s different for my position. I want to be important in a different way. I can still take steps forward and I’m not yet where I want to be.”

On the matter of Barcelona’s mixed performances so far this season, De Jong added: “We have a talented squad but we have not been consistent enough. I don’t know the exact reasons behind that.”

On whether he thinks he would become a manager in the future, the Barcelona ace said: “I don’t think I’ll be a coach after my playing career.
