Barcelona president hints at late deadline-day signing – ‘I’m waiting…’

With not much time left before the winter transfer window closes, it appeared that FC Barcelona would not be making any signings.

After all, the Catalans have lacked the salary space to pull off any deals and as such, had to give up on key target Marcus Rashford, who ended up signing for Aston Villa.

Laporta hints at signing

However, speaking at a media appearance just a while ago, Barcelona president Joan Laporta hinted that the club might have something in the works for late on deadline day.

“The market closes at midnight. I am waiting for some operation, I am waiting for Deco,” said the Barcelona president, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

The transfer of Nico Gonzalez from FC Porto to Manchester City is set to bring in some revenue for Barça as they had a 40% sell-on clause for the former La Masia midfielder.

Furthermore, there are also talks of FC Porto wanting to sign Pablo Torre, although it appears that Hansi Flick has closed the doors on that operation.

So, it remains to be seen if there is any late movement on the deadline day as far as the Catalan giants are concerned.

In the recent past, they have struck deals late on deadline day – the signings of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Joao Cancelo, and Joao Felix spring to mind.

And judging by Laporta’s words there may be scope for something similar before the transfer window closes in three hours.
