Barcelona are ready to put their foot down with Alexia Putellas, as per a report by Mundo Deportivo. The Ballon d’Or winner is out of a contract in 2024, and has not accepted any offer from the Catalan giants.

Considered one of the greatest women’s player of all time, Putellas is returning from an ACL injury and was absent for most of last season. She was still a part of the Spain World Cup winning squad earlier this year, though, and played all seven games in the tournament.

Putellas also became Barcelona Femeni’s all time top scorer in October, overtaking former teammate Jenni Hermoso.

That said, Barcelona are not ready to continue negotiations with her, and have sent her their absolute final offer. They are not ready to raise a penny more after that and have given her time to decide whether she wants to accept it or leave the club.

Barcelona refreshed their offer

Another report from Mundo Deportivo also suggests that Barcelona changed this ‘final’ deal. While the financial details remain the same, they have made the new contract a year shorter.

Putellas’ camp did not expect this change from Barcelona, and have not addressed it yet.

Persistent knee problems

Putellas’ ACL injury seems to have caused long-term damage to her availability. She last played a game against Benfica in the Champions League on 14th November, and has been out of action since then, and will be till mid-January, at least.

The tests carried out suggested that the injury is not serious, due to which the 29-year-old has chosen to undergo conservative treatment for her injury instead of going under the knife again.

Should the discomfort continue, Barcelona doctors and Putellas will take a decision on how to proceed after that.
