There is a feeling of comfort in seeing Ronald Araujo don Barcelona’s captain’s armband. As a true Blaugrana through and through, the Uruguayan star defends the club’s crest with his all every time he steps onto the field.
The 24-year-old has claim as one of the world’s best defenders in recent years and has only grown to greater powers with every passing season. Needless to say, his stature attracts attention from across the globe, with Bayern Munich being most closely linked with his signing.
Tuchel calls Araujo
As revealed by Mundo Deportivo, Bayern Munich and Araujo have been in contact for a while now, with manager Thomas Tuchel even personally calling the Barcelona defender to convince him of a move. The Bavarians see him to be the missing piece in their almost complete puzzle.
The 24-year-old, however, has made it clear that a move in the ongoing winter transfer market is out of the question. He is completely focused on Xavi’s project and will not switch allegiance midway through the season.
The coming summer transfer window, however, is a completely different story. The player would undoubtedly prefer to stay in Catalonia, but would not oppose a departure if the club sanction it for financial reasons.
Period of evaluation
As one of the best in the business, Araujo rightly eyes the most glorious trophies in the world of football to decorate his cabinets. Barcelona’s unclear project, thus, is a matter of concern to his long-term future.
As continued by MD, the youngster wishes to see how Barcelona’s form and project evolve over the course of the season and where they stand as a group in June. A final decision over his future will be made at that crossroads.
As it stands, Bayern Munich are willing to pay €70 million for the centre-back’s signing. A potential transfer in June, however, would be impossible unless they hit the €100 million mark.
